Emotional & Narcissistic Abuse Therapy FAQs Answered

What To Expect

Starting therapy can be daunting. I’m here to make the process as easy as possible.

1

Consultation/Book First Session

The first step is to see if we’re a good fit by booking a free 15-min. consultation call (telehealth or phone). We’ll talk about your situation and how I may be able to help. Alternatively, if you’re ready to jump in, you can just book your first session.

2

Complete Intake Paperwork

Once we’ve decided to work together, I’ll send you a link via email to my secure client portal to complete intake paperwork (takes about 20 mins). This gives me a better understanding of you and what you may need.

3

Intake Session/Therapy Plan

We’ll meet for 1 hour in person or online, depending on your location and preference. We’ll talk about your history, what’s going on now, and set priorities for therapy. Finally, we’ll discuss session frequency and book your next appointment.

Therapy is an investment in your growth and happiness.

I want you to get the right support for you. It’s so important that your therapist deeply understands the complexity of your concerns and what’s going to work best so you can get out of therapy and live the life you truly want. I work with a limited number of clients at a time so I can show up for you the way you deserve—focused, energized and grounded.

Insurance

I feel strongly that your mental health care should be between you and your therapist and will be getting off of insurance panels in 2026. For self-pay clients, I’ll provide a monthly statement that you can submit to your insurance company if you want to use your out-of-network benefits to help pay for therapy. These benefits are specific to your insurance plan, and reimbursement requires that I give you a mental health diagnosis. Thrizer is a third-party service that makes it super easy to use your out-of-network benefits. You can check your eligibility here.

Currently, I accept Aetna, Cigna, Optum and United Healthcare, but this will change later this year. I will give you at least 60 days’ notice before that happens.

I have partnered with Thrizer to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy. Use this tool to see if you qualify for reimbursement for my services.

Still have questions? Take a look at the FAQ or reach out anytime. If you’re feeling ready, go ahead and apply.

  • If you’re in the Baton Rouge area, we can meet in person or online. I offer online therapy across Louisiana, Florida and Virginia.

Online sessions occur via a HIPAA-compliant and encrypted video platform. Just get to a private space, and click the link that’s emailed to you just before your session.

Earbuds can be helpful to ensure privacy and eliminate distractions.

  • The fee is $250 per 60-minute individual session for self-pay clients. You will be provided with an insurance reimbursement form for your visits if you choose to use your out of network benefits, or you can use Thrizer to handle it for you.

Choosing not to file with insurance allows you to be in full control of your health care. Learn more about using out of network benefits here.

All clients keep a credit card on file via a secure site that’s integrated with my practice management system. Sessions are charged on the day of the service. You can also use a health savings card (HSA) for session fees, depending on your insurance.

Each self-pay client will receive a Good Faith Estimate, so that there are no financial surprises.

  • Currently I accept Aetna, Cigna and United Healthcare/Optum through a company called Alma, although that will change in the coming months.

If you choose to use your out-of-network insurance benefits, you may be able to get reimbursement for mental health services. I can provide you with a superbill (receipt) to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement, or you can use a third-party company like Thrizer to handle everything for you.

  • I’m not the best therapist for everyone, and even though I technically could, I don’t treat every mental health problem there is. I know who I do my best work with and have specialized training in the issues I treat. I also have 25 years of experience as a therapist and nearly 50 years of experience as a human!

I value authenticity, humor and safety, and I want you to feel comfortable in showing up as yourself. If you use colorful language, go for it. Dress comfortably and bring your fidget toy, blanket or favorite beverage. Pets are also welcome, although if you plan to bring one to an in person session, please discuss it with me first.

  • The first step is to book a free 15-minute consultation call. This gives us a chance to talk about what you're looking for, answer any questions you have, and see if we're a good fit. If we decide to move forward, we'll schedule your first session from there. You can schedule your consultation here.

  • The cancellation policy is 100% of your session fee if cancelled with less than 48 hours notice.

The client portal is available 24/7 so you can reschedule without having to play phone tag. If you need to cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, please call me or send a message through the portal.

Note: You are not financially responsible for any cancellations that are initiated by me.

  • Sessions are 60 minutes and are typically held weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your needs and goals.

Group therapy sessions are usually 90 minutes and meet weekly for 8-12 weeks.

  • That depends. Some clients are able to make significant progress in 6-12 sessions; others may need more time.

I don’t want you to be in therapy forever. We’ll work efficiently to get you feeling better and back to living your life.

  • You don't need to have it all figured out or use any specific labels to start therapy. Many of my clients begin feeling confused, questioning their experiences, or wondering if they're "overreacting." We'll explore what's happening in your relationship to help you gain clarity and perspective.
